Even though Tribecca is close to the city the trek up the hill from the train station is a real killer. We were totally unprepared for the steepness of the hill with our loaded suitcases and had to rest a number of times. I would advise older travellers to catch a taxi for their own comfort, it would be well worth the expense. Our rooms were well equipped but needed a little bit of maintenance. We couldn't use the dishwasher as it was blocked full of powder and sludge from the last use.
The Manager/Receptionist was lovely and kept our cases for us when we had to check out but weren't flying out till later that day. There was a small shopping centre close by for food and alcohol but the bus doesn't go past the hotel so walking is a necessity. Comfortable rooms and facilities.
Southbank is lovely and well worth the visit with lots of places to eat and relax and a beautiful view of the river/city. The bus tour that does the city sights loop is good value if you start off earlier in the day to get maximum use of the multi stops where you can get off and rejoin wherever you like for the all inclusive price. Included in this is the river cat which is wonderful on a sunny day.
Lots of shops to spend your money in, and Paddington Street about 10 minutes bus ride from the city is perfect if you like antiques and quirky clothing/gift shops.
You can book hotels and much more accommodation online.
